Hummus at Yalla Beiruty: How We Make It
Few dishes say “welcome” like a plate of fresh hummus, and at Yalla Beiruty it is the first thing many guests reach for. Our hummus is creamy mashed chickpea blended with tahini and lemon juice — simple ingredients treated with the respect they deserve. Like everything we serve at our Dania Beach and Coconut Creek restaurants, it is made fresh from scratch with no artificial flavoring, coloring, or preservatives, and it is completely halal.
We have spent more than 15 years perfecting the balance of nutty tahini, bright lemon, and silky chickpea that defines a proper Lebanese hummus. The recipe comes from our family, carried from our roots in Montreal, and it tastes just like Teta used to make.
What Goes Into Our Hummus
Great hummus starts with great chickpeas, cooked until tender so they whip into something light rather than heavy. We fold in real tahini for that signature nuttiness and finish with fresh lemon juice for lift. The result is smooth, balanced, and endlessly scoopable with warm pita. Prefer a heartier plate? You can add beef shawarma right on top, turning a classic mezze into a meal.
How to Enjoy It
Hummus is the cornerstone of any Lebanese table. Pair it with our Baba Ghannouj, Muhammara, and Labneh for a spread of cold appetizers, or build a full mezze experience by choosing four favorites from our Mix Cold Appetizer. It also makes the perfect partner to our charcoal-grilled skewers and shawarma.
Why Hummus Belongs in Your Diet
Beyond the flavor, hummus is a quietly nourishing food. Chickpeas bring plant protein and fiber, tahini adds healthy fats, and olive oil rounds it out — a natural fit for the Mediterranean way of eating. It is naturally vegan and vegetarian friendly, which is why it is one of the most popular dishes for our plant-based guests.
